Ilex aquifolium 'Northern Lights' (pbr)

Ilex aquifolium, the Common holly or English holly, is a well-known evergreen shrub. Their foliage varies in sharpness and colour. Some are without spines, while others are very sharp. A number of silver and golden variegated cultivars is available. Most cultivars are quite vigorous, however, densely branched. Making them very suitable for use in large group plantings and tall(er) hedges. They also have a high ornamental value as a specimen plant. Another value of these shrubs is formed by their, usually red, fruits.

Van Vliet New Plants exclusively introduces a new variegated Holly: Ilex aquifolium ?Northern Lights?. This fine new cultivar was raised from the well-known ?Alaska? and has the same, very sharp but well-shaped leaves. These are golden yellow with dark green margins. ?Northern Lights? has a pyramidal habit. Due to its dense branching and upright habit it is excellent for use in tall and broad hedges. It is also recommendable for use in groups with groundcovers such as Pachysandra and Cotoneaster. Combinations with white-flowering shrubs, such as Deutzia gracilis ?Nikko?, is also very handsome.

With its very dense branching, handsome foliage and vigorous growth, ?Northern Lights? is a beautiful new Holly cultivar. Very hardy.
